5/20/2010 – San Antonio, TX — No, Texans are not planning to offer free prostitution to residence and tourists along the San Antonio River Authority project with their newly announced ‘prostitution free’ zones. Actually The idea is to create areas where police are going to emphasize a zero tolerance to individuals who are known to engage in street prostitution.
Councilwoman Jennifer Ramos’ proposal designates areas of focus, called “prostitution free corridors.”
So far, the streets that would be targeted haven’t been nailed down, but Ramos says Roosevelt and Presa are likely candidates.
“There’s a lot of focus right now on Roosevelt and Presa for the San Antonio River Authority project coming right through there. Bexar County is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on this project and it would be a shame if we continue, if we don’t do our part as citizens and the city to help improve the neighborhood,” said Ramos.
The police chief will make a recommendation on what happens next. The measure could go before city council by July.
